Jewel Bugs (shiny green bugs with black spots )



Jewel bugs come from the family Scutelleridae. This is a family of true bugs or Hemiptera. Jewel bugs are commonly recognized for their metallic and vibrant colors and patterns. They are of different colors like green, orange, blue, red, black, etc. They are of different sizes, commonly small. 

Their body is divided into a head, thorax, and abdomen and they have a scutellum which is not divided so they do not split up when they fly, unlike beetles. They have a pair of segmented antennae.

Jewel bugs feed on plants. They first inject digestive juices into plants and after digestion they suck that digested juice.

These vibrant green colored jewel bug is commonly found in small plants and trees. They are usually found in the groups of four to five individuals. They go into incomplete metamorphosis. They lack larval and pupal stages. They lay eggs in the leaves of the plant, the eggs are white and cream colored.

Jewel bugs are harmless to humans and they do not bite. So, you dont harm them too. They are not that rare, they can be easily seen in plants and gardens. They are beautiful bugs.
